Kent-ucky Fried Chicken arrives

Canterbury was out in force yesterday as the public made use of their first KFC fast-food restaurant in nearly 30 years.

Sturry Road became a scene of madness as flocks of people queued for up to 30 minutes to get a taster of the Kentucky style.  The KFC franchise becomes the fourth fast-food restaurant installed in the vicinity of Canterbury and with McDonalds' just seconds away, competition for punters will reach an all time high.

Enduring the mania was Canterbury student Lewis Martin who said, ‘‘It’s great to finally have a KFC in Canterbury. It’s been a long time coming and before we had to go all the way to Margate just to get a Bargain Bucket!’’

The Kentucky business was established in the 1930s and today over 700 outlets are available across the UK and Ireland. Colonel Harland Sanders became the face of the business and is seen in all KFC marketing. After his death in 1980, the restaurant swore to live by his legacy with hard work and excellent customer service.
